Leonid Maksimov studied under Alexander Siloti. Maksimov continued his musical education at the Moscow Conservatory with Siloti and Pavel Pabst, graduating in 1892.
Siloti taught piano at the Moscow Conservatory as a professor from 1888 to 1891, and Maksimov is listed among his students there.
