Rogier Michael traveled to Venice on the advice of Annibale Padovano and studied under Andrea Gabrieli from 1569 to 1572. During these formative years in Venice, Michael received advanced musical training directly from Gabrieli, who was a leading figure of the Venetian School and organist at St. Mark's. This period under Gabrieli’s instruction significantly shaped Michael’s musical development before he returned to Germany in 1572.
