Giacomo Meyerbeer studied theory and composition under Antonio Salieri in Vienna during his early musical formation. This period of instruction, mentioned in accounts of Meyerbeer’s studies around 1805–1807, placed the young composer under the guidance of one of the most influential pedagogues of the era.

In addition to providing formal instruction, Salieri also influenced the direction of Meyerbeer's developing career: after early operatic setbacks, Salieri advised him to travel to Italy to deepen his understanding of Italian opera. This mentorship helped shape Meyerbeer’s later success as an operatic composer.
