After moving to Vienna with his family, Theodor Leschetizky became a pupil of Carl Czerny. Czerny is listed among the outstanding musicians who studied with him, and Leschetizky later said that his own teaching method was inherited from Czerny without additions or changes. Leschetizky also credited Czerny with instilling in him a love of Beethoven's music.
