In 1821, Carl Maria von Weber provided Julius Benedict with lessons in the theory of composition. This period of instruction took place while Weber was at the height of his fame following the success of Der Freischütz, and Benedict later received a noble title from Queen Victoria in recognition of his talent. Weber's teaching thus played a direct role in Benedict's early musical formation.
