David Saperton was Leopold Godowsky's son-in-law: in 1924 he married Vanita Godowsky, Godowsky's elder daughter. Saperton later made the first recording of works by his father-in-law, and Godowsky recommended him to Josef Hofmann for a teaching post at the Curtis Institute of Music.
