Saverio Mercadante received part of his musical education at the Royal Conservatory in Naples, where he studied under the renowned composer and pedagogue Fedele Fenaroli. This mentorship took place in the early years of the nineteenth century, before Fenaroli’s death in 1818, and formed a foundational stage in Mercadante’s training in composition and counterpoint.
