Egidio Romualdo Duni studied under Francesco Durante while attending the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto near Naples, where Durante served as director from 1742 to 1745. Duni was one of the notable pupils of the eminent Neapolitan teacher, alongside Giovanni Pergolesi and Giovanni Paisiello. His musical education under Durante formed part of the foundational training that shaped his later career as a prominent composer of Italian opera and French opéra comique.
