Niccolò Jommelli studied under Francesco Durante during his musical education in Naples. After demonstrating early musical talent, Jommelli was enrolled in the Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio a Capuana, where he became a pupil of Durante, one of the leading representatives of the Neapolitan School. This mentorship placed Jommelli within a distinguished lineage of composers trained by Durante and contributed to the solid technical foundation that supported his later operatic reforms and successes.
