Tommaso Traetta studied under Francesco Durante in Naples during his formative years as a composer. He was a pupil of Durante at the Naples conservatories, including the Conservatory of Santa Maria di Loreto, where Traetta completed his studies in 1748. Durante, a leading figure of the Neapolitan School and a prominent teacher of sacred music and counterpoint, contributed to Traetta’s musical foundation before the young composer debuted successfully in Naples in 1751.
