Jan Kalivoda studied under Friedrich Wilhelm Pixis at the newly founded Prague Conservatory, completing his studies as one of its first graduates in 1815. Pixis, a prominent German violinist and professor who had taught there since 1811, played a decisive role in shaping the early Czech violin school, and Kalivoda was among the notable pupils who benefited from his instruction.
