Friedrich Wieck was the father of Clara Wieck Schumann. Clara Josephine Wieck was born in Leipzig on 13 September 1819 to Friedrich Wieck and his wife Mariane Tromlitz. After her parents' divorce, Clara remained with her father.
Wieck was also Clara's teacher. He is remembered as the teacher of his daughter Clara, and he personally directed her musical education from childhood. She received daily one-hour lessons from him in piano, violin, singing, theory, harmony, composition, and counterpoint, along with two hours of practice using his own teaching methods. He accompanied her on concert tours throughout Europe, and his instruction of Clara helped establish both her early reputation as a child prodigy and his own reputation as a piano pedagogue.
