Giacomo Carissimi → Alessandro Scarlatti

Teacher of

Alessandro Scarlatti is generally considered to have been a pupil of Giacomo Carissimi during his early years in Rome. Sources indicate that Scarlatti, who moved to Rome in the early 1670s, received his musical education there under Carissimi, one of the leading composers and teachers of the Roman School. Although some accounts describe this as probable rather than fully documented, both Italian and English biographies consistently state that Scarlatti studied under Carissimi, whose influence is reflected in the stylistic traits found in Scarlatti’s early works.
