Nicola Manfroce studied counterpoint under Giacomo Tritto at the Pietà dei Turchini Conservatory in Naples, beginning in 1804. Tritto, a prominent composer and theorist who later became primo maestro of the institution, was among the key figures shaping Manfroce’s early musical formation.
Under Tritto’s instruction, Manfroce received a rigorous grounding in Neapolitan contrapuntal tradition, which complemented his simultaneous harmony studies with Giovanni Furno and helped prepare him for his early successes as a young composer.
