Lauro Rossi entered the San Sebastiano music college in Naples in 1822, where he studied music under Giovanni Furno. Furno, a renowned representative of the Neapolitan school and one of the most respected composition teachers in Naples, instructed Rossi during his formative years alongside other prominent students such as Vincenzo Bellini, Errico Petrella, and Federico Ricci.

Rossi remained under Furno’s guidance until completing his studies in 1829, a period during which he developed the foundational skills that enabled his early successes as a composer, including writing several masses and debuting his first opera later that same year.
