Johann Christian Bach studied under Giovanni Battista Sammartini during his years in Italy between 1754 and 1762. After initially perfecting his craft with Padre Martini in Bologna, Bach continued his musical education in Milan, where, thanks to the patronage of Count Agostino Litta, he became a student of Sammartini. This period of study occurred after Bach’s arrival in Italy and contributed significantly to his development as a composer while he was also beginning to establish himself professionally as an organist at Milan Cathedral from 1760.
