After completing his studies at the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto in Naples, Domenico Cimarosa continued to refine his vocal abilities by taking singing lessons from the renowned castrato and vocal pedagogue Giuseppe Aprile. This period of study, occurring shortly after Cimarosa left the conservatory in the early 1770s, connected the young composer with one of the leading representatives of 18th‑century bel canto, known for his expressive technique and influential vocal treatises. Aprile, celebrated across Europe and active in Naples as a performer and teacher, contributed to Cimarosa’s vocal development during the formative years of his career.
