Sviatoslav Richter was among the major musicians taught by Heinrich Neuhaus. In 1937, Richter entered the Moscow Conservatory to study piano in Neuhaus's class.
After Richter was expelled that autumn for refusing to study general education subjects and returned to Odessa, he soon came back to Moscow and was reinstated at the conservatory at Neuhaus's insistence. Richter received his diploma in 1947.
