Henry Litolff studied under Ignaz Moscheles after impressing him with his playing in London in 1830, when Litolff was twelve years old. Moscheles, already a renowned virtuoso and pedagogue, agreed to teach him free of charge, beginning that same year. Their lessons continued for several years, with sources indicating the period as roughly 1830 to 1835, during which Litolff developed as a young pianist and made his debut performances in London, including at the Covent Garden Theatre.
