Jozef Elsner → Ignacy Dobrzynski

Teacher of

Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński studied under Józef Elsner in Warsaw beginning in 1825. He first received private instruction from Elsner, who was one of the leading composition teachers of the time. This relationship later continued formally when Dobrzyński became a student at the Warsaw Conservatory (also called the Institute of Music) from 1826 to 1828, where Elsner taught composition and music theory.

The mentorship provided by Elsner played a formative role in Dobrzyński’s musical education, placing him in the same circle as other notable pupils such as Frédéric Chopin. Under Elsner’s guidance, Dobrzyński developed the technical and stylistic foundations that shaped his later work as a composer, conductor, and pianist.
