Henri-Louis-Stanislas Mortier de Fontaine studied under Józef Elsner in Warsaw, where he was a fellow student of Frédéric Chopin. This period of instruction took place during Mortier’s youth, before his debut in Danzig in 1832, and formed part of Elsner’s prominent pedagogical activity at the time.
