Emanuele Barbella studied under Leonardo de Leo at the Santa Maria di Loreto Conservatory in Naples. After the death of his previous teacher, Michele Cavallone, Barbella continued his studies in music theory and composition with Leonardo de Leo from 1740 until 1744.
