N. V. Piccinni, known as Niccolo Piccinni, was a student of Leonardo de Leo in Naples. Leo, a leading composer and teacher of the Neapolitan school, taught at the Conservatory of Sant'Onofrio beginning in 1739, where Piccinni is listed among his pupils. Piccinni's formative musical training was therefore shaped in part by Leo's instruction in composition and the Neapolitan style.
