Leonid Nikolaev was Pavel Serebryakov's piano teacher at the Leningrad Conservatory. Serebryakov studied in Nikolaev's piano class there and graduated in 1930.
After completing the conservatory course, Serebryakov continued to improve under Nikolaev in postgraduate study until 1932.
