Grigory Pekker studied cello under the French teacher Louis Abbiate at the Petrograd Conservatory. Pekker entered the conservatory at the age of 11. His studies with Abbiate continued until 1919, when the teacher left Russia, prompting Pekker to transfer to the class of E. V. Wolf-Israel.
