Paul Tortelier studied at the Paris Conservatory under Louis Feuillard. Tortelier spoke very highly of his teacher.
Tortelier also performed Handel's trio sonatas in an arrangement by Feuillard for two cellos and piano, playing in an ensemble with his wife Maud Tortelier and daughter Maria de la Pau.
