Lev Mazel was a student of Mikhail Ivanov-Boretsky and completed postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory in 1932 under his academic supervision, earning the degree of Candidate of Art Criticism. From 1932 to 1934, Ivanov-Boretsky headed the Conservatory’s historical-theoretical department and postgraduate studies.
