Lev Mazel was a student of Mikhail Ivanov-Boretsky. Mazel completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory in 1932 under the scientific supervision of Professor Ivanov-Boretsky, earning the degree of Candidate of Art Criticism.
