Dorothy DeLay was a student of Michael Press, a Russian and American violinist and music pedagogue. Press taught at Michigan State College in East Lansing from 1928 to 1938. DeLay continued her education at Michigan State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937.
