Nikolai Vilinsky taught Konstantin Dankevych composition at the Odessa Musical and Drama Institute named after L. van Beethoven, from which Dankevych graduated with honors in 1929. After hearing the talented student-pianist perform, Vilinsky insisted that he begin studying composition, and their creative friendship continued for decades after Dankevych's graduation.
