After deciding to devote himself to music, Alexander Scriabin began taking private piano lessons from Nikolai Sergeyevich Zverev. He studied piano under Zverev simultaneously with the young Sergei Rachmaninoff. Unlike some other students, Scriabin did not live in Zverev's musical boarding school while taking lessons.
