Giovanni Anfossi studied composition and counterpoint under Pietro Platania at the Naples Conservatory San Pietro a Majella. Platania served as the director of this institution from 1885 to 1902, during which time Anfossi was a student and completed his course in 1887. Their relationship was therefore that of student and teacher within the context of Platania’s leadership at the conservatory.
