Vache Umr-Shat taught Svetlana Navasardyan in the piano class at the Romanos Melikian Music College in Yerevan and, from 1964, at the Komitas Yerevan State Conservatory. Navasardyan came to him at the age of twelve with a Haydn sonata and Cramer etudes and studied with him through her conservatory graduation in 1968, by which time she had become a laureate of two international competitions.
