Karen Kornienko studied at the Moscow Conservatory from 1993, first in the class of E. Malinin and then under Vera V. Gornostaeva. Gornostaeva was a professor at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and Kornienko later continued there as an assistant trainee from 1998 to 2000.
