Vladimir Horowitz and Regina Horowitz were brother and sister. They were born in Kyiv in a family of four children and were both pianists.
After Vladimir Horowitz's first documented public concert in Kyiv in March 1921, he toured various cities of Russia together with the violinist Nathan Milstein and his sister Regina. He later repeatedly invited Regina to join him in the United States and arranged documents for her travel in 1957 and 1975, but Soviet officials did not allow her to leave. Regina Horowitz taught at the Kharkiv Conservatory and died shortly before her brother's 1986 visit to the Soviet Union.
