Alexander Kobrin is a Russian pianist and teacher, born on 20 March 1980 in Moscow.
While still a student at the Gnessin Moscow Special School of Music, he took part in various Russian and international music programs, including the International Festival marking the 100th anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev in Italy in 1991.
He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied in the class of Lev Naumov. During his student years he became one of the winners of the Neuhaus Young Pianists Festival in Moscow in 1998, won the Scottish International Piano Competition in 1998, and won the Busoni International Piano Competition in 1999.
In 2000 he received third prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition. In 2003 he was awarded second prize, with no first prize awarded, at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan. In 2005 Kobrin won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Kobrin has toured widely around the world. His recordings include works by Chopin, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff.
