Antonina Szumowska was an American pianist of Polish origin. She was born in Lublin on February 22, 1868, the daughter of a teacher, and studied at the Warsaw Institute of Music with Rudolf Strobl and Aleksander Michałowski.
From 1890 she lived in Paris, where she studied with Ignacy Paderewski. She made her Paris debut in 1891 at the Salle Érard, then toured extensively in England during the first half of the 1890s and performed in Warsaw, Kyiv, and Lviv. In 1895 she made her American debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
In 1896 she married the orchestra’s cellist, Joseph Adamowski, and settled in the United States. From 1897 to 1914 she performed with her husband and his brother Timothee as part of the Adamowski Piano Trio. During the 1920s she taught at the New England Conservatory; her students included Ruth Culbertson and Jesús María Sanromá. She died in Rumson, New Jersey, on August 18, 1938.
