Arthur Moreira Lima was a Brazilian pianist, born in Rio de Janeiro on July 16, 1940. He began studying piano in Brazil with Lucia Branco. In 1960, he studied with Marguerite Long in Paris, then continued his training at the Moscow Conservatory from 1963 to 1968 with Rudolf Kerer.
Moreira Lima toured extensively in many countries. He won second prize at the Seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in 1965 and third prize at the Fourth International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1970, alongside Victoria Postnikova. He also received Brazil’s Order of Cultural Merit.
He died of colon cancer in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on October 30, 2024, aged 84.
