David Labovitz (August 13, 1915 – June 20, 2008) was an American conductor. He studied at the Juilliard School, taking piano with Irwin Freundlich and conducting with Richard Goldman and Sergius Kagen.
Labovitz led several New York choral ensembles, including choirs at the New School and the City University of New York, where he also chaired the piano department. In 1964, he founded the Choral Symphony Society, which brought professional musicians, students, and amateur performers together for concerts. He led the society until the final year of his life.
Within the society, Labovitz established a concert choir. In 1992, its chamber choir, the New York Cantata Singers, became a separate ensemble. It specializes in the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach and performed more than 70 of them under Labovitz’s direction.
