Dmytro Zaporozhan is a Ukrainian concert opera and chamber singer (countertenor), teacher, and researcher. He is a member of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union since 2023 and the National Union of Theatre Workers of Ukraine since 2024. In 2025 he was awarded the President of Ukraine's scholarship for young writers and artists in the fields of music, theatre, visual art, choreography, variety and circus arts, and cinema.
Zaporozhan graduated in 2015 from the B. M. Lyatoshynsky Kharkiv Music College, where he studied singing, and in 2021 from the Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts in the Academic Singing program in Musical Art, receiving the professional qualification of opera singer, concert and chamber singer, researcher, and higher education teacher. Since 2021 he has been a postgraduate researcher at the university's Department of Interpretology and Music Analysis. His scholarly work is reflected in publications on contemporary countertenor art and Baroque interpretation, including studies on Jakub Józef Orliński, Philippe Jaroussky, and a co-authored article on the poetics of musical Baroque.
He serves as a solo vocalist with the Dnipropetrovsk House of Organ and Chamber Music, has taught at the B. M. Lyatoshynsky Kharkiv Music Professional College since 2022, and since 2024 has worked as a teacher in the Department of Solo Singing and Opera Training at the Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts. At the university he teaches professional training, concert and chamber class, vocal ensemble, professional practice, and pedagogical practice. He is also a guest soloist of the D. Hnatyuk Chernivtsi Regional Philharmonic and a member of the artistic platform Open Opera Ukraine in Kyiv.
As a performer, Zaporozhan has taken part in opera productions and concert activity across Ukraine. He appeared in the opera studio productions of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro in 2019 and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in 2021, and in 2020 collaborated with the academic symphony orchestra and the V. Palkin chamber academic choir of the Kharkiv Regional Philharmonic. Since 2022 he has also been a member of the music formation Sforzando in Kharkiv.
Since 2022 he has performed in more than 200 concerts on stages in Ukrainian cities, including appearances at the Dnipropetrovsk House of Organ and Chamber Music, the Sumy Regional Philharmonic, the Poltava Regional Philharmonic, and the hall of organ and chamber music of the D. Hnatyuk Chernivtsi Regional Philharmonic. He has participated in the international music festivals Kharkiv Music Fest in 2023 and Slobozhanska Fantaziia in 2023 and 2024 at the Sumy Regional Philharmonic. In October 2024 he appeared in the Mykola Lysenko Column Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in the premiere production of Henry Purcell's opera King Arthur: In Search of a Hero with Open Opera Ukraine under the baton of the Catalan conductor Roc Fargas.
In 2024, within the framework of the international music festival KYIV BAROQUE FEST-2024, Zaporozhan participated in a master class with the internationally renowned German countertenor Andreas Scholl, a specialist in historically informed performance in early music. Alongside his stage and academic work, he is active as a speaker and pedagogue: in 2023 and 2024 he was an invited speaker in the artistic and methodological project Music of Unity in Dnipro, and he has led professional seminars on vocal pedagogy for teachers of art schools and music colleges in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernivtsi regions. His career combines stage performance, teaching, and scholarly work.
