Elena Dzamashvili was a Georgian Soviet pianist and teacher. She was born on 16 February 1942 in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union, into the family of the historian Vakhtang Dzamashvili and the pianist Nino Dzamashvili.
In 1961, she graduated from the Second Music School, where she studied with Lucia Isayan. That year she entered the Tbilisi State Conservatory, studying with Tatiana Goldfarb and later continuing her training with Tengiz Amirejibi.
From 1971 to 1990, Dzamashvili worked as a concertmaster and teacher in a vocal-ensemble class. She also collaborated with a symphony orchestra and the television and radio committee. In 1990, she was named an Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR.
Invited by the Cairo Conservatory, she moved to Egypt in September 1991. She worked there as a pianist and taught piano and chamber music to students in the vocal, piano, and string departments. She also taught at the Talent Development Center of the Cairo Opera House and at the music department of the American University in Cairo.
Dzamashvili gave annual solo recitals and performed with local and visiting musicians. She formed an artistic duo with Hasan Sharara, the conservatory’s dean and a violinist, and performed with the Cairo Piano Quartet.
She died in Cairo on 21 July 2020. She was buried in the Greek Orthodox cemetery in the city’s Mar Girgis district, near St. George’s Church.
