Emin Khachaturian
Emin Khachaturian (5 August 1930 – 5 August 2000) was a Soviet and Armenian conductor, composer, and music teacher. He was the nephew of Aram Khachaturian. He received the title Honored Art Worker of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1968 and was named People's Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1975.
Khachaturian graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in piano in 1954, studying with Lev Oborin, and in conducting in 1958, studying with Alexander Gauk. He conducted the Moscow Regional Symphony Orchestra from 1957 to 1960 and the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre of the USSR from 1965 to 1966. At the Bolshoi he conducted productions of Rigoletto, The Tsar's Bride, and Vano Muradeli's October.
From 1966 to 1976, he was artistic director and principal conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of Cinematography. He recorded music for numerous films, including Aibolit-66, The Taming of the Fire, Office Romance, and My Love in the Third Year. His film-recording work also included films such as I Walk Around Moscow, Ivan's Childhood, The Diamond Arm, Stalker, Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears, and Tehran 43, for which he conducted music by Georges Garvarentz. Alongside his studio work, he maintained an active concert career and toured abroad.
From 1990, Khachaturian led the Orchestra of Armenian Television and Radio and the Yerevan Chamber Orchestra. In 1991 he became professor in the opera and symphonic conducting department at the Komitas Yerevan State Conservatory. His students included conductors Tigran Sargsyan and Tigran Ahnazaryan. He also wrote scholarly works published by Soviet Composer.
Khachaturian died of a heart attack at his country house near Yerevan on his seventieth birthday. He was buried in Yerevan on 8 August 2000.
