Evgeny Mikhailovich Timakin (1916–2004) was a Soviet and Russian pianist and music teacher. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under Konstantin Igumnov.
Timakin was known primarily for his many years of teaching at the Moscow Conservatory and the Central Music School. He became especially notable through his pedagogical work and his influence on several generations of pianists.
Among Timakin's students were Mikhail Pletnev, Ivo Pogorelich, Ekaterina Novitskaya, Alexander Mogilevsky, Sergei Musaelyan, Olga Kern, and many others. Another of his students, Vladimir Feltsman, called him a “great teacher.”
Timakin summarized his pedagogical experience in the book The Upbringing of a Pianist (Moscow: Sovetsky Kompozitor, 1989). A valuable complement to this work is his chapter in A. Khitruk's interview collection Eleven Views on Piano Art (Moscow: Klassika XXI, 2007).
