Frank Peters (born 1965) is a Dutch concert pianist. He studied piano with Janine de Mever at the Arnhem Conservatory and with Jan Wijn at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, graduating with highest distinction. He subsequently took lessons with Peter Feuchtwanger, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Hans Leygraf, Gyorgy Sebök, and Boris Berman.
Peters has performed at all major venues in the Netherlands and has appeared in nearly every European country, as well as in Russia, China, Australia, and the United States. As a soloist, he has played concertos by Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Schnittke, Ravel, Gershwin, Beethoven, and Bach with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra, the Gelders Orchestra, and the Polish National Radio Orchestra.
In 2004, Peters gave the world premiere of Hanna Kulenty's Third Piano Concerto at the Musica Polonica Nova festival. He gave the Dutch premiere of the work with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006.
He is also active in chamber music. With the Danel Quartet, he has performed piano quintets by Sorabji, Medtner, Respighi, Fauré, Franck, Shostakovich, and Schnittke. In 2003, he and the Zephyr Quartet performed a programme centred on the Canadian composer Claude Vivier; it was repeated at the Holland Festival in 2005 and the Melbourne International Arts Festival in 2006.
Peters is the pianist of the Hexagon Ensemble. With mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Levental, he forms a duo that performs and records Nikolai Medtner's complete song output. He is a principal-subject teacher at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and gives workshops and masterclasses in Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, and China.
He has won prizes in national and international competitions, including the International Prokofiev Competition in St. Petersburg and the Eduard Flipse Competition in Rotterdam. In September 2021, Peters and Levental received the Pure Sound Award in Moscow for Best Recording of Russian Music for their first Medtner CD, Incantation.
Peters's concerts have been recorded for radio and television in the Netherlands and abroad. His recordings include music by Hanna Kulenty and Jacob ter Veldhuis. With the Hexagon Ensemble, he recorded the albums The Dutch Connection and The British Connection, while his five-part Medtner series with Levental is released on the Brilliant Classics label.
