Franz Wohlfahrt was a German composer and music educator, born in Frauenprießnitz on March 7, 1833. He was the son of Heinrich Wohlfahrt and studied with Ferdinand David.
Wohlfahrt taught violin. He wrote a series of studies, including 60 Studies for Violin, Op. 45, which is often among the first study works learned by violinists and violists and remains part of the modern teaching repertoire for beginners. He died in Leipzig on February 14, 1884.
