Heinrich Wiesner
Heinrich Wiesner was a Bulgarian pianist, conductor, and music teacher of Czech origin. He was born in Prague on February 16, 1864, and studied at the Prague Conservatory, graduating in 1882.
From 1887 onward he lived and worked in Bulgaria. At first he led the military band of the First Cavalry Regiment. In 1891, with his military orchestra, he gave the first complete operatic performance in Sofia, Gaetano Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia.
On October 18, 1908, Wiesner conducted the first performance of Sofia's Opera Society, the future Sofia Opera. In the same year he became one of the founders of the Sofia Private Music School.
During his teaching there, he became the first teacher of a number of leading Bulgarian musicians, including Pancho Vladigerov, Panka Pelishek, and Lyubomir Pipkov. He later taught at the Sofia Conservatory.
