Károly Aggházy was a Hungarian pianist, composer, and music teacher. Born in Pest on October 30, 1855, he began playing the piano at the age of eight. He studied at the National Music School, now the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, with Robert Volkmann, Anton Bruckner, and Franz Liszt.
Aggházy began performing in concerts in 1879. From 1883, he taught at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin and later at the National Music School in Budapest.
Most of his 170 works were published by major Hungarian, German, English, and French publishers. Apart from the operas Marietta and Rákóczi, he mainly wrote chamber music and piano pieces. He is regarded as a prominent figure in Hungarian music, whose work connected the eras of Franz Liszt and Béla Bartók.
