Kees Stokvis, born Cornelis Stokvis, was a Dutch pianist and, to a lesser extent, composer. He was born on 3 July 1914 in Hoorn, the son of Cornelia Woestenburg and Eduard Gerardus Stokvis.
Stokvis studied piano at the Amsterdam Music Lyceum with Cornelius Berkhout and Jaap Spaanderman, and studied conducting with Anthon van der Horst. During his student years, he regularly performed at student recitals. Around 1935, he moved to Amsterdam.
In 1941 he married Albertine Constantia “Ties” Arriëns, whom he had met through their mutual teacher, Cornelius Berkhout. The couple formed a piano duo, giving recitals and performing works requiring two soloists. In 1947 they appeared with the Groningen Orchestral Association under Jan van Epenhuysen. Marius Flothuis dedicated his Divertimento on a Theme by Kees Stokvis for two pianos, Op. 28, to the couple.
Later in life, Stokvis concentrated chiefly on teaching. He taught at the Amsterdam Music Lyceum and, from 1952, at the Gooi Music Lyceum, where he became deputy director in 1960. As a composer, he wrote music for several ballets.
Stokvis died on 27 October 1984 at Juliana-Oord in Laren. He was cremated at Westgaarde.
