Konstantin Myaskov
Konstantin Myaskov was a Soviet and Ukrainian composer. He was born on 15 August 1921 in Poltava, Ukraine.
Myaskov graduated in 1958 from the P. I. Tchaikovsky Kyiv Conservatory, where he studied composition with Konstantin Dankevych. From 1951 to 1952, he was a soloist with the Republican Philharmonic in Kyiv.
His works include the ballet The Tale of the Merry Moth (1980); the musical comedies Ballad of the Boys, after Arkady Gaidar (1979, Simferopol), and A Day in Veselovka (1983, Ternopil); and the cantatas Dawn over Africa (1963) and Workers' Glory (1977). He also wrote concertos for various instruments and orchestra, music for folk-instrument orchestra and bayan, choral works, romances, songs, film music, and arrangements of folk songs and dances, including “Kolomyika.”
He was named Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1979 and People's Artist of Ukraine in 1993. Myaskov died in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 4 January 2000, by suicide, following numerous severe chronic illnesses.
