Chinese pianist San San Lee performed at an RRI studio with violinist Lee Eng Liong. Their program included Franck’s Sonata in A for violin and piano and works by Dvořák and de Falla arranged by Kreisler; Lee also played Chopin’s Sonata, Op. 35. She later gave several well-received concerts in Jakarta, her birthplace, and elsewhere in Indonesia, performing classical and modern works, before flying from Kemajoran to Europe.
Lee studied at the Amsterdam Music Lyceum, graduating cum laude, and represented the school at performances in Amsterdam and Brussels. She continued her studies in Paris and Rome, having earlier studied with Berkhout and later with Agosti and Gieseking. The article describes the dynamic range of her playing as her great strength and links it to her preference for colorful music. Although she was interested in orchestral music, opera, and singing, she chose to concentrate on the piano.
