Leonid Grin is a Russian and American conductor, born on 19 June 1947 in Dnipropetrovsk. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with Leo Ginzburg and Kirill Kondrashin.
Grin worked as an assistant conductor with the Moscow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. From 1976, he led the amateur orchestra of the Central House of Scientists.
He emigrated to the United States in 1981, studied with Leonard Bernstein, and worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He was music director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra from 1990 to 1994, the San Jose Symphony Orchestra from 1992 to 2001, the Saar Opera Orchestra from 2001 to 2006, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Chile from 2013 to 2018.
Grin teaches at the University of Houston. For several years, he taught at a school for young conductors in Gstaad with Neeme Järvi and Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
